The Japanese Bobtail breed is strong and healthy.  Japanese Bobtail were accepted by the Cat Fanciers Association in 1993. They are comparable to other breeds. Being a hardy breed, they have a low kitten mortality rate and are highly resistance to diseases.  Kittens are never born tail-less, nor are they born with full tails. They are active, intelligent, talkative cats. Their soft voices are capable of nearly a whole scale of tones; some people say they sing. Since they adore human companionship they almost always speak when spoken to.

The Japanese Bobtail comes from Japan. Any color except the Siamese pattern or Abyssinian type agouti is permitted, the most popular colors are black, red, white, black and white, tortoiseshell and red & white.  The tail is unique not only to the breed, but to each individual cat. The tail of the Japanese Bobtail must be composed of one or more angles, curves or kinks and should be no longer than three inches. 

Pricing on Japanese Bobtails usually depends on type, applicable markings and bloodlines.

Typically breeders of all breeds of kittens release their kittens somewhere between twelve and sixteen weeks of age. The reasoning behind keeping a kitten until after twelve weeks is that kittens have had their basic inoculations. This gives them time to develop the physical and social stability needed to make a smooth transition into their new environment.  It is never recommended that a breeder release a kitten before twelve weeks of age as the kittens need this time to develop properly. Releasing a kitten prior to twelve weeks of age is against the law in many states.  It is also recommended that you keep all pedigreed cats and kittens indoors and that they be spayed or neutered.  Cats and kittens of all ages also need suitable surfaces for scratching, such as scratching posts.  Scratching is a natural behavior of the cat breed and declawing a cat is not recommended and is not accepted by the Cat Fanciers Association.
